THE LYON PARK CHAMPION AWARDS
In April, 2009, the Lyon Park Champion Awards were inaugurated to recognize outstanding volunteers in the neighborhood.
On May 2, 2010, Elizabeth Wray and Peggy Weidenhammer received the 2010 Champion Award award in recognition of each of their many years' service to the community. Both served for a number of years on the Board of Governors for the Community Center and also participated in countless community activities such as bake sales and the spring fair. Elizabeth (on the left, below) is perhaps best known for being "Mrs. Claus" at the annual holiday party, and Peggy (on the right) also worked on the Community Center Renovation Committee and driving patients to doctors' appointments and the hospital. On December 9, 2009, Wendell & Alice Brown and Monica & Larry Craven received Champion Awards, recognizing their many years of service to the community. Wendell Brown was on the Lyon Park Board of Governors for 29 years. Monica and Larry Craven have both been Presidents of LPCA. Both Wendell and Larry are Trustees of the Lyon Park Community Center, and all have served in a number of other positions and provided years of devoted service to the community. Wendell & Alice Brown
On June 10, 2009, Bill Anhut received the second Champions Award. In presenting the award, President Natalie Roy cited Bill's outstanding service to the community as the neighborhood tree conservation steward and leader, and his continuing contributions as Lyon Park Citizens Association Treasurer.
